The Best Breakfast Starts in the Evening

The main problem people usually have with eating a healthy breakfast, is not being prepared. If you don't know what you're going to have for breakfast or you are running late in the morning, it’s so easy to grab a bowl of sugary cereal or just skip breakfast all together.

Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. A healthy breakfast helps set you up for success throughout the rest of the day. It will also help protect your long term health.

If You Want to Choose a Healthy Breakfast

Make sure you know what you're going to have for breakfast the evening before. OK, so this will need a bit of planning. It might be something you haven’t , so you feel a bit out of your comfort zone. But trust me, before you know it, you will be wondering why you didn’t start sooner!

Some breakfasts can even be prepared the night before. Prepping breakfast as you are tidying away after dinner means you know you are going to start your day healthily, especially if you know you don't have much time in the mornings.

One of the tips I tell my nutrition clients is to start slowly. Just try preparing Monday morning ‘s breakfast in advance. It’s a great way to kick start your week healthily.

Keep Away from Processed Foods

Avoiding processed foods at breakfast is key to getting your day off to the best start. Processed foods usually contain high amounts of sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats. Instead, choose whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, organic free range eggs, nuts and seeds as the basic ingredients to a healthy breakfast. These foods will help you stay energised and focused throughout the day.

My Favourite Choices in the Morning

Do this before you even think about breakfast (or coffee) in the morning, Start your day with one or two glasses of water. That might be a big change for you, if drinking water in the morning isn’t something you are used to doing, start slowly and build up. Give yourself a high five even if you just have one sip of water tomorrow morning, you've just taken the first step towards a healthier lifestyle. That’s an amazing thing to do.

I like to speed up my mornings by making overnight oats sometimes called bircher muesli or chia seed pots. Not only does it save me time in the morning, it also makes sure I have a healthy breakfast - no excuses!

My go-to speedy breakfast to make in the morning is banana and plant-based yoghurt (I like coconut based ones). I add a sprinkling of nuts and seeds and some ground ginger. I also make sure I have homemade muesli ready prepared for me and my family.

On the weekends when I have a bit more time I like to mushroom omelette. Eggs are a great way to start the morning. Full of protein and easy to prepare. I always choose organic free-range ones to really boost your health. Organic eggs contain more healthy omega 3 fats, and more vitamin A and E.
